Korfball is an ideal sport for juniors and schools, because it enables boys and girls of all ages (even secondary school) to play together in the same team.

Junior korfball is really getting going in Milton Keynes, and we will also be hosting the European U21 Championships in October 2010 at the Arena at Stadium:MK!

Most of the junior korfball so far has been run through schools, although we are now starting out-of-school clubs, which are not affilated to any particular school, so there is now also a chance to play if your school or your child’s school can’t set up a club, or if your primary school stopped sessions at half-term.

In the 2007/08 season, Shenley Brook End Secondary School and a combined team from Gilesbrook, Longmeadow and Oxley Park Primary Schools competed in matches at the Korfstock tournament on 12/07/08. Shenley Brook End also played home and away matches against London clubs, with the option for sixth-formers to also train with one of the local adult clubs. We also ran korfball sessions in the past year at Oakgrove and Lord Grey secondary schools, and other end-of-term fun sessions at other schools in July 2008.

We can supply a coach to run sessions in your school!

The schools currently playing korfball this half-term (autumn term 2008, second half of term are):

Oxley Park (primary) Monday after school, Langlands (primary) Monday after school, Wavendon St Marys (primary) Monday in lessons, Wavendon Gate (primary) Monday after school, Ousedale (secondary) Monday in lessons

Gilesbrook (primary) Wednesday after school, MK College catering students (further education) Wednesday in curriculum, Drayton Park (primary) Wednesday in lessons, Leon (secondary) Wednesday in lessons

Shenley Brook End (secondary) Thursday & Friday after school, Mead Furlong (primary) Thursday, Orchard (primary) Thursday, Great Horwood (primary) Thursday after school, Holne Chase (primary) Thursday after school

Simpson (primary) Friday in lessons, Lord Grey (secondary) Friday

Starting or hoping to start December or January: Stantonbury, Walton High, Oakgrove, Sir Frank Markham, Whitespire, Two Mile Ash, Cold Harbour

Resuming in summer term: Christ the Sower, Long Meadow

As well as inter-school matches, we will also be setting up matches during the 2008/09 season for MK representative teams to play against oppostion from around the country, on the same dates as senior Midlands Regional League matches. MKX is the combined team name for the MK junior programme.

There are posts going in at Leon, Walton, Stantonbury and Oakgrove Secondary schools (there are already posts at Shenley BE and Lord Grey) and teachers from some of these schools have attended Level 1 coach training. So hopefully they will be starting in curriculum time from September and some after school clubs.

Joining Oxley Par, Giles Brook and Long Meadow on the primary school side of things should be Orchard, Langlands, Christ the Sower, St Mary’s & St Gile’s and hopefully Holne Chase.

We aim to have a schools tournament in October.

If you would like to see korfball in your school (your child’s school) please get in touch.

We also aim to start U13’s & U16’s on Wednesday evenings from 6-8pm from mid September. Look out for more details.

The youth programme has started well. We had 472 attendees at sessions in September (most sessions didn’t start until w/c 15.9.08) – this was 351 different young people. In the first week of October we trained 300+ young people.

Thanks to the Community Foundation and Mouchel for their support.

We start new out of school clubs for any young player after half term.

Thursdays 5-6pm at Courtside in Bletchley for U11’s

Fridays 5-6.30pm at Oakgrove Leisure Centre for U13’s

Email youth@mkkorfball.co.uk for more details and watch the local press.

The first inter-school match took place on Friday 17th October with Lord Grey School defeating Shenley Brook End 4 – 2. Lord Grey moved ahead 3 – 0 but were pegged back to 3 – 2 before the Bletchley side stretched the lead with a late goal.

The two teams will meet again on 7th November at a tournament at Oakgrove where the host school will make their debut.
